Advent Calendar Day 12 – Mulled Apple Cider for One

Cosy, Spiced, and Blissfully Low-Effort

Day 12 marks the halfway point of our Advent Calendar, which means two things:

  1. You’re officially allowed to start saying “I can’t believe how fast December is going,” and
  2. It’s time for something warm, spiced, cosy, and perfect for solo sipping.

Enter Mulled Apple Cider for One—a comforting little mug of festive calm. Unlike mulled wine, this is gentle, soothing, and won’t have you asleep on the couch by 4pm. It’s basically Christmas aromatherapy you can drink.

The best part? It simmers in five minutes. Five! That’s less time than it takes to find the end of a roll of sticky tape.🎄

⭐ Why You’ll Love This Solo Sip

  • Smells like Christmas punched you in the nose (in a good way)
  • Sweet, spiced, warm, and soothing
  • Zero alcohol, so perfect for daytime festive vibes
  • Lovely base for rum or bourbon if the moment calls for it
  • Makes your kitchen smell incredible

🍎 Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 1 cup apple cider (non-alcoholic)
  • 1 cinnamon stick or 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2–3 cloves
  • 1 thin slice of fresh orange
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • Optional garnish: star anise, extra orange slice

🔥 How to Make It

  1. Add cider, cinnamon, cloves, and the orange slice to a small pot.
  2. Bring to a gentle simmer (don’t boil!) and warm for 5 minutes.
  3. Taste and add honey/maple syrup if you’d like it sweeter.
  4. Strain into your favourite mug and garnish with star anise or extra orange.
  5. Sip while wearing socks you definitely bought on sale.

Make it boozy: Add a splash of rum, bourbon, or spiced whisky at the end.
Make it for a crowd: Scale everything x4 and serve in heatproof cups.

💬 Christmas Card Message to Write to Your Single Friends

🎁 Bonus Tip

Serve this with a small ginger cookie on the side and suddenly your kitchen feels like an adorable Christmas market stall.
